If you think you might like to become a gun club member or would just like to enjoy the experience for the day, then please read on to find out more about shooting ranges.

Joining a Gun Club

Anyone can visit a shooting range and fire weapons for a day, but this means that you will be constantly supervised and will have a limited choice of firearms that you can use.

However if you find that you enjoy shooting and would like to do it more often, with less supervision and be able to use a wider choice of fire arms you can become a Gun Club Member.

Here are some steps that potential gun club members usually go through in order to become a gun club member.

  • Firstly a potential member must visit the gun club they wish to join as a guest or visitor a certain number of times before they can apply.
  • In order for the gun club to accept you, you must then attend an interview with the gun club committee members. This meeting is to allow the members of the gun club committee to find out more about your background and allow them to inform you of the gun clubs rules and regulations.
  • The interview being successful you will then be sent an application form which you must fill in and bring back to the gun club, you do not post this application off. This part of your application to a gun club is essential and is stipulated by law.
  • If all the above steps have been carried out, you will be then granted a probationary gun club membership until your application has been processed and confirmed (the probationary period may last around three months).
  • All being well with your interview and your application then eventually you shall receive your full gun club membership, and be able to take advantage of all the full memberships’ privileges.

Visiting Shooting Ranges

There are two main different types of shooting ranges as explained below.

Outdoor shooting ranges

Most outdoor ranges additionally restrict the maximum calibre size, or have separate ranges devoted to use for higher powered firearms and airguns.

Indoor range activities

Indoor ranges usually have a back wall with a sloped bank, with reinforced baffles additionally situated along the roof and side walls. Ventilation is carefully controlled to pull smoke and lead particles away from the shooting line, and to exhaust them from the building.

Modern shooting ranges also usually have an air-locked corridor for sound-proofing, with two doors at opposite ends of the egress corridor. Most indoor ranges restrict the use of certain magnum calibres, or the use of fully-automatic weapons.
