Ever since motor vehicles were invented there has been Motor Sports. People from across the globe come together to compete in specially organised events that test the nerve and skill of drivers who wish to become 'number one'.
There are many different types of motor sports which range from to amateur to professional levels. The professional side of motor sports draws a lot of support and many lucrative sponsorship deals.
Formula One
Formula one is a motor sport that consists of specially designed, highly tuned racing vehicles that can achieve incredible speeds in just seconds.
The performance of formula one cars in motor sports is highly dependent on the electronics, aerodynamics, suspension and tyres.
Formula one grand prix races are held all over the world on specially selected tracks and is a massive television event viewed by millions of people, in as many as 200 countries.
Rally
A rally is a race that is done in stages and can take part over a number of days on different types of terrain. Anyone competing in a rally is allowed to run the track before the actual race to get detailed descriptions of all the twists and turns (pace notes) the track has to offer.
These notes are then used as instruction told by a co driver to the driver of the rally car, to make him aware of any difficulties he may come across during the race. This process allows the driver to complete each stage of the course in the quickest possible time.
The biggest rally event held today in motor sports would have to be the World Rally Championship, but there are also many other competitions that include the Monte Carlo Rally, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland and Rally GB.
Drag Races
Drag races take part on a short strip of track which is traditionally a quarter of a mile in length. The point of drag races is to start and finish in the quickest time possible.
Drag races are usually head-to-head with two dragsters battling it out to be the winner and get to the finish line first. The winner then proceeds to the next round. The vehicles in this motor sports range from everyday motor vehicles to purpose built dragsters.
Dragsters can reach incredible speeds in a matter of seconds and need to deploy parachutes in order to brake safely.
