members of bands in evening wearBands are different from other types of musical performance due to the fact that most of the members play their own instruments and write their own songs.

A musical group, such as a 'pop group', are created solely for the purpose of singing and may write their own songs, but do not use musical instruments to create the music, but either have a backing band, or computer generated music accompaniment.

Hiring Bands

There are many different types of band, such as an orchestral band, which plays classical instruments to create music of the same genre. Other types of band can be found in each of the different genres of music, such as a rock band, or punk band.

Each of these types of bands specialise in playing an amplified instrument, usually consisting of one or two electric guitars, a bass guitar and amplified drums.

For entertainment purposes bands are perfect for Corporate Events, weddings, parties and other events where background music is required. Local bands are usually the best choice for these occasions as they are cheaper to hire, live close and still have most of their own equipment.

It is worth checking that they play the type of music suitable for the venue you are creating and whether they are good by checking their reputation in the local area.

Orchestral Bands

Orchestral bands play classical instruments and usually consist of many members that are split into sections, such as wind, or strings.

Most of the time orchestral bands focus on playing classical pieces of music by composers such as Beethoven or Bach although sometimes an orchestral band may use music by another band from a different genre of music, such as Incubus, or Metallica, who have both performed live tracks with the aid of a full orchestral backing band.

Orchestral bands are also used in theatrical musicals to play the backing music to the songs and sit in the 'orchestral pit' just in front of the stage.

Boy Bands

Boy bands differs from the usual type of band because they are not technically a band, as they don't play their own instruments and only perform vocals. Most boy bands must also perform specially choreographed, technical dance routines whilst they are singing the song.

The term boy bands has been highly disputed because of the fact that they rarely play any instruments and the acts are essentially vocal harmony groups.
