Origins of Archery
Traditionally archery was used for hunting and combat, but has also been enjoyed by kings, queens and even Pharaohs in Egypt. However thousands of years later on and archery has now become a favourite pastime and even an olympic sport enjoyed by many people at Archery Clubs all over the world.
Rules of Archery
Archery is a sport where you use bows to fire arrows at targets which are of various distances away from the archer. The purpose of this sport is to hit the target as accurately as possible.
If you're thinking that archery sounds easy then you would be greatly mistaken, as delivering an accurate shot to the target means taking into account and calculating such things like distance, velocity and even the winds direction.
Different Kinds of Archery
The two most popular types of archery enjoyed at archery clubs are Target Archery and Field Archery.
Target Archery
Target archery competitions may be held at archery clubs indoors or outdoors. In target archery you aim your arrows at a target a certain distance away. After a set number of arrows competitors then walk to the target to score and retrieve their arrows.
The target is then moved to a different distance, but the archer stays in one spot and then fires their next set of arrows. At the end of the target archery competition the archer with the greatest score is named the winner.
Field Archery
Field archery involves aiming arrows at targets of varying distance, often in rough terrain. In field archery you fire a certain number of arrows at a target and the targets can be in a variety of positions, for example on a hill, in a tree or even across a stretch of water.
Modern Types of Archery
Other modern types of archery that people enjoy at archery clubs include the following.
- 3D Archery
- Clout Archery
- Flight Archery
- Ski archery
If you plan on taking up archery as a sport there are plenty of archery clubs around the country that provide archery lessons for archers of all levels of experience.
There will more than likely be certain age restrictions because of the fact it is a dangerous sport, but children should be able to visit archery clubs if accompanied by an adult.
